Why Brass?
Let's delve into the world of brass. Much like sterling silver, brass gracefully undergoes oxidation. External elements such as dirt, grease, hairspray, and skin oils may deepen its hue, gradually crafting a charming patina. Personally, I adore the vintage aesthetic this aging process imparts and often incorporate aged or vintage brass into my creations. However, if you prefer to maintain a shiny gold appearance, fear not—it's incredibly easy to restore its lustrous glow. What's more, brass is not just aesthetically pleasing; it's also sustainable, thanks to its recyclability. Its lightweight and durable nature ensure comfortable wear and lasting beauty while reducing environmental impact.
I began designing jewelry while living in NYC in the early 2000's. I was a Flight Attendant in those days, traveling around the world and loving city life. Initially a hobby, it quickly gained momentum, leading me to collaborate with costume designers and stylists. It was pretty exciting to see my designs on the big screen, and adorning the necks of touring rock stars.
Today I prefer country life over city living, spending my time with my husband, Patrick and our dog Ryder. When I'm not designing jewelry, you can find me in my garden or on a hiking trail.
Born from a love of nature
Elk & Pine is born from my family’s love of nature and travel adventures in our tiny teardrop trailer. Our roots are planted in Mississippi, but we leave a piece of our hearts in the mountains of the West every time we visit. The pieces you see here reflect the landscapes we encounter on our travels, and hiking adventures. May they remind you of your own adventures or the ones you want to take.
